I'm not shy to admit it: I love Mario! Pac-Man may have been around longer, Mega Man may have the highest-tech outfit, but to me, Mario holds the crown for videogame characters, and Nintendo proves why once again with its latest version of their amazing and colourful Mario series! Not to mention...more Yoshi!
They’ve taken the guaranteed Mario formula for fun, and brought the action to the Wii - Yippee!! - with a couple of cool improvements. To start, you can now grab 4 controllers and play in real time with your friends--a feature that actually makes the game way more fun, but at times, more difficult.
Losing a life in the game results in your character being sealed in a bubble that hovers just above your friends until one of them 'pops' you out. Now if your friends are feeling a bit mean, they could leave you floating in that bubble for the whole level! For example, I might do that to Yuki or Leiyah - HA HA!
But it's the level design that really stands out here, and Nintendo pushes some of the features far beyond from super old original version (my Dad has it - it's cool too) . For example you'll get giant bosses that take up nearly the whole screen, sweet visual effects like a mist wrapping an entire level, and areas where the enemies totally outnumber you.
Adding to the excitement are some new power ups like the Ice Flower (which lets you freeze and fling the bad dudes) and the Penguin Suit (which makes swimming a breeze).
I have to say: the bright, colorful visuals and the beautiful design make this game really stand out from a lot of other games on store shelves. And it's the little things that count too. For example, the Wiimote's speaker actually produces sound effect (like picking up coins) that really suck you into the game in a big way.
Sometimes the levels were a bit too tricky to get through (I think I almost gave my WiiMote a toss a couple of times, but Mika was there to calm me down), but playing with a friend really helps. And why didn't Nintendo allow us to use our classic controller, when they were supposed to be made especially for playing these retro-styled titles? My last comment is: why can I only play as Mario in single player? I've always had a bit of a preference for Luigi--but maybe that's just because I love green....
But these are just small questions for an overall excellent game! If you're a fan of Mario, then you don't need me to tell you to pick this up! And if you're never played with everyone's favorite Italian plumber, then this is exactly the game that will show you what all the fuss is about!

Really good review! that's exactly what i thought! It's nice though because if your playing single player and you can't complete a level, they call super guide (A.K.A. Luigi) to do the level for you.
